Black and White

Photographs made at the Delhi Observatory in 1989

In 1989 I was in India and Nepal for three months, photographing temples and other forms of sacred and devotional architecture. While waiting in Delhi for the letters of permission, I visited the Jantar Mantar, and thus began my love affair with these extraordinary places. The photographs in this gallery were made in one afternoon, on black and white film with a hand-held medium format camera.
